Mozartīs Letters, Mozartīs Life: Selected Letters, Edited by Robert Spaethling
A collection of Mozartīs letters edited by University of Massachusetts Professor Emeritus Robert Spaethling that shows Mozartīs many sides; Son, Husband, Brother, and Friend. A fascinating look inside the head of a musical genius in his own words. A new translation more accurately depicts Mozartīs ribald sense of humor. Spaethling said he wanted to "provide a complete portrait of Mozart the musician, the individual, and the writer." An interesting read for Mozart fans.
Mozart: A Life By Maynard Solomon
For those who want to delve deeply into the life, work, and psyche of Mozart, Solomonīs 640 page work (including appendix, Notes, Bibliography, index of compositions, and even a table of money values) is about as comprehensive and insightful a portrait as you could want. Solomon, who won critical raves for his Beethoven biography, and has also written about Schubert and Ives, does an excellent job of capturing the life, times, and personality of Wolfgang Amadeus.
